SUMMARY:Reimagining the Archive: Black Memory as Design Praxis
DESCRIPTION:The Place\, Memory &amp\; Culture Incubator (PMCI) at the Spitz
er School of Architecture\, City College of New York\, invites you to atte
nd Reimagining the Archive: Black Memory as Design Praxis\, a three-day sy
mposium exploring how Afro-diasporic memory and cultural practices are res
haping architecture\, preservation\, and the built environment.\n\nWhat is
“the built archive\,” and how can it be understood as a living\, spat
 ial\, and community-centered practice?\n\nAcross disciplines\, designers\,
archivists\, artists\, and cultural workers are expanding the boundaries
of the archive—embedding it within neighborhoods\, landscapes\, and coll
ective memory. This symposium brings together leading and emerging voices
to reflect on and imagine new frameworks for preservation\, storytelling\,
and culturally resilient futures.\n\nFounded three years ago\, the Harlem
Place\, Memory &amp\; Culture Incubator (PMCI) is a collaborative initiat
ive that rethinks preservation as an active\, creative\, and community-dri
ven process. Through partnerships across Harlem and beyond\, PMCI has deve
loped new approaches to engaging history\, memory\, and place. \n\nThis s
ymposium marks a milestone moment\, including the transition of the Harlem
Place\, Memory &amp\; Culture Archive to community partners.\n\nWhat to e
xpect:\nOver the course of the symposium\, you’ll experience keynote lec
 tures\, panel discussions\, roundtables\, site visits\, performances\, and
community-based activations exploring how Afro-diasporic memory shapes de
sign and preservation practices today.\n\nEvent Schedule:\n\n Thursday (S
 ept 17): Opening Keynote + Reception\n Friday (Sept 18): Harlem Walking T
 our + Open House + Performances\n Saturday (Sept 19): Full-day Symposium
