Prof. Jennifer Birkeland Named Director of the Master of Landscape Architecture Program
As the new academic year begins later this month, we are pleased to announce that Prof. Jennifer Birkeland has been named director of the Graduate Program in Landscape Architecture!
Prof. Birkeland began her role as Associate Professor of Landscape Architecture at the Spitzer School of Architecture in January 2026. She brings multidisciplinary expertise in design and practice to advance and strengthen the Master of Landscape Architecture program’s mission.
Prior to CCNY, she held teaching positions at Cornell University and Pennsylvania State University. She is a licensed landscape architect in the state of New York. Jennifer received her Master of Landscape Architecture at Harvard University and has a Bachelor of Science in Landscape Architecture from California Polytechnic State University Pomona.
Jennifer is a Founding Partner and Landscape Architect at op-AL. She has worked with internationally renowned offices such as West 8, OLIN, and Ken Smith Workshop. Jennifer is a Fellow of the American Academy in Rome, receiving the Mark Hampton Rome Prize in Design with Jonathan. She has also been recognized by the Landscape Architecture Foundation, the Council of Educators in Landscape Architecture, and the American Society of Landscape Architects for her practice, research, and teaching.
